7 St James’s Square
Westminster

Formation Architects worked in collaboration with Martin Kemp Design to create a single family residence in a Grade II listed building within St James’s Conservation Area in the City of Westminster.

The building was originally constructed in 1674-76, but was substantially re-built and re-modelled to the designs of Edwin Lutyens in 1911 for three bachelor brothers: W F Farrer and H L Farrer, solicitors in the firm of Farrer & Co – the royal solicitors – and G O Farrer, a merchant banker.

Whilst the building retains much of 1911 Lutyens external appearance and the general plan layout, internal alterations have been undertaken to provide cellular offices and separate apartments. The proposals provided the opportunity to reinstate much of the Lutyens work and to create a truly stunning residence.
