The Elektron Development site is situated on the north side of the River Thames directly opposite the Millennium Dome. Above 4-5 storeys, the site enjoys fantastic panoramic views of Canary Wharf to the west and the river to the south. The opportunity to exploit these views has generated a design of one 25 storey building and two 22 storey buildings providing 437 apartments.
Tower 1 is orientated on an east west axis, creating a public plaza in front of the building and opening up the site to link with the Docklands Light Railway concourse. Towers 2 and 3 are orientated on a north south axis, in response to the local urban grain. The Greenwich Meridian line bisects the site linking the site and the river front.
Planning consent was granted in May 2005 and construction was completed in 2008. The design makes use of innovative construction techniques such as post-tensioned concrete slabs and pre-fabrication unitised façade panels. The project won a British Homes Awards in 2007.
