Formation Architects secured planning permission for a new 200 bed hotel adjoining the Bournemouth International Conference Centre. (BIC)
The development which includes vocational training facilities for local students will transform a prominent, but overgrown and disused site overlooking the BIC into a high quality hotel, leisure and retail development.
The design responds to the challenging topography of a steeply sloping site to create a tailored landmark building. All ‘serving’ functions of the building are accommodated in the plinth, which is clad in tall and slender terracotta louvres giving it an abstracted mound-like appearance.
The lobby and public areas at entrance level spill out onto a generous terrace offering views of the sea. The facades of the hotel wings above the plinth are clad in seashell white reconstituted stone contrasting with vertical bronze panels.
