The Octagon
Slough

Scottish Widows commissioned Formation Architects to design this new office building as part of the regeneration of the centre of Slough.

The two buildings are 8 and 10 storeys with deep office floor plates. They are orientated to the street boundary and then rounded in response to the site shape, so softening the building form. The two buildings are joined at the main cores, with an entrance courtyard to the north and a landscaped courtyard to the south. 1½ floors of basement provides parking for 86 cars, plant and a full double height loading bay.

A deep façade has been developed for the office space to create shading from the spandrel panel depth and vertical fins. This is augmented by solid panels in a random pattern with a distinctive colour for each building. The deep elevation becomes solid at the escape cores forming bookends to the façade pattern.
