This unique new house is on a chalk escarpment descending down to the River Thames not far from Henley. The site is within a conservation area, designated area of outstanding natural beauty on the outskirts of Cookham, birthplace of the painter Stanley Spencer.

There was initially local resistance to the idea of an uncompromisingly modern house on this very scenic stretch of the Thames, but this carefully crafted design which responds carefully to its setting and makes the most of the views & orientation persuaded the planning committee who gave it a unanimous vote of approval.

The house was competed in 2010.

306 sqm (3,300 sqft) new build family house.

Shortlisted for the RIBA Awards 2011.
