Formation Architects have designed a 39-unit residential scheme located in The London Borough of Croydon on behalf of Vfund Purley Ltd, Regent Land & Developments Ltd and RAA Ventures Ltd. The scheme successfully achieved planning in November 2019.

Councillors praised the high-quality design and considered the additional 39 residential units a welcome contribution to the local housing stock.

31.5% of the flats will be affordable and 56% are family units.

The scheme has been developed together with a master plan over the last 18 months and has included in depth consultation and input from the local community and key local stakeholders through councillor meetings, discussions with local organisations and residents’ associations, and a public consultation.

Former Greenwich Police Station, West Greenwich

Former Greenwich Police Station,

West Greenwich

Formation Architects have designed a 59-unit residential scheme located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, located on the site of the former Police Station. The scheme successfully achieved planning on 15th October 2019.

The site is within the West Greenwich Conservation Area and is in close proximity to various listed buildings, the most prominent being the former Town Hall complex directly opposite the site, which is Grade II listed.

The scheme has been developed over the last 17 months and has included in depth consultation and input from the local community, various discussions were held with Historic England, the Greenwich Society, as well as the Conservation Officer for the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Michael Richter, Director at Formation Architects says:

“The architectural language of the new building draws on that of the adjacent listed Former Greenwich Town Hall. This establishes a relationship to define the junction and the key views around the junction. The scheme’s layout and materiality has been developed and designed to complement the adjacent properties, both in form as well as in the location of the function of the new building.”

New Staff Building Port of Felixstowe

New Staff

Port of

The Port of Felixstowe has grown organically over the last 75 years to become the largest container port in the UK.  Staff facilities and administrative offices have up till now been added and refurbished in a piecemeal fashion and these dilapidated structures are now to be replaced with a new building that accommodates all Port staff under one roof.

The new building will provide office space for up to 450 staff, shared amenity facilities for up to 2,000 staff in a double height light filled space, modern changing facilities and meeting and training rooms.

Formation Architects have recently completed detailed consultation with all staff to determine the optimum layout of the building.

The project will be submitted for planning later this year.

Travelodge Lewisham

Formation architects were appointed to prepare a planning application for a 127-hey hotel on a prominent corner site along Lewisham High Street.

The building bookends a stretch of mixed-use buildings and marks the southern entrance of the town centre. The building also comprises two commercial units at ground level, which contribute to the activation of the street frontage.

We were tasked with rationalising the floor plan to improve the customer journey, as well as the 6 storey mass and density of the scheme, to ensure the building fits in more sensitively into it’s surroundings, both in height and materiality.

Planning has been successfully achieved.

Devonshire Quarter Cambridge

Blocks F2 and B2

CB1, Cambridge

Formation Architects have developed designs for the last two remaining plots of the CB1 masterplan which regenerates the Station Area of Cambridge.

Building B2 will accommodate 206 spaces in a multi-storey car park for Network Rail and an Adagio Aparthotel with 125 keys above.

Building F2 will be a 45,000 sqft Business Centre and Co-working office space.

The two neighbouring buildings link the urban station area with the low-density Conservation Area to the north and require a sensitive design approach.

The schemes are currently awaiting planning determination mid-2019.
