We are delighted to confirm that we have planning permission for a second hotel in Cambridge.

This hotel operated by Accor will kick-start the development set out in the Cambridge North Masterplan, also designed by Formation Architects. Seen as part of the necessary infrastructure to service this growing area of the city, the 4* hotel will be sited on a new urban square, to be called Cambridge Square. The proposed 6-7 storey hotel will provide 217 bedrooms, a bar and restaurant, a gym and swimming pool, conference facilities, as well as 160sqm (1,722sqft) of retail space.

We completed our first Cambridge based unique IBIS hotel just over a year ago. This triple use unique building is U-shaped and is six storeys in height. It comprises much needed secure bicycle parking storage for 2,850 bicycles over ground and is the UK’s largest cycle storage facility also includes a bicycle maintenance shop.

This 230 key IBIS hotel sits above the cycle park and fronts the square together with a first floor restaurant and 550 sqm of retail at ground floor. The main facade addresses the station square. The corners are recessed to create a well proportioned central section and a subtle transition of scale to the northern wing of the existing listed station. Stone at ground and first floor gives the building a solid base and defines the vertical hierarchy. Green coloured panels by the side of the windows emphasise the vertical proportions and complement the gault brick of the listed station building. Full height perforated metal louvres enclose the first and second floor of the Multi Storey Cycle Park.
