Calvin Bruce spent the early part of his career working with John R Harris Partnership on major refurbishments of Listed buildings such as HMP Manchester (Strangeways) The Dorchester Hotel and with Hurd Rolland Partnership on Friends House (the Listed headquarters of the Quakers in Britain on Euston Road), Silso House (a Listed 1960s icon of British Modernism in Camden for The Crown Estate) and The Verulamium Museum in St Albans.
Calvin spent almost twenty years with PDP London starting as Architect, rising to become Partner in 2006. As Project Architect / Associate he worked on many fine Listed buildings including Cadogan Hall (Grade II conversion of a redundant church into a concert hall and base for the RPO), Cornwall Terrace (Grade I Decimus Burton designed terrace to be converted from 20th century uses back into prime residential use) and other residential schemes (both new-build and conversions) in Conservation Areas.
Calvin joined Formation Architects in 2018 and has worked on 7 St James’s Square (Grade II a private house designed by Lutyens to be converted from offices back into prime residential use), the former Lots Road Power Station (new-build, primarily residential scheme within retained heritage facades) and Oval Village, a new-build residential / mixed use scheme for Berkeley Homes. He also been involved in the design for Southall, Waterside, also for Berkeley Homes
Calvin enjoys the challenges of reviving and re-purposing Listed and unlisted buildings and new-build projects within historic environments and on tight urban sites.
