Experience
With over 40 years’ in practice, Ian has in depth experience of a wide range of project types and procurement methods and of managing internal and external design teams on large, complex multi-disciplinary projects. Within Formation Architects he is responsible for Technical Standards / Design, and Delivery. He has recently worked on large Residential / mixed-use developments in Hornsey, Lots Road, Balham and at the Oval, and is currently working on major projects in Brentford, Wornington Green and Purley. He has previously worked on RIBA award winning Arts and Education projects in Scotland and has delivered major Healthcare projects with a combined value in excess of £1 billion.
Experience gained whilst working as a site architect for a major national contractor has informed his approach to design delivery. He is acutely aware of what is required to deliver projects where quality, time, cost and resources must all be balanced. He advocates a collaborative approach to problem solving and welcomes real opportunities to engage not just with the design and main contractor teams, but with specialist sub-contractors / suppliers to produce solutions that benefit the project as a whole. In this, his approach places equal importance on strategic issues and matters of fine detail.
In addition to his project work he is passionate about the development of the skills of younger colleagues and sees mentoring as a natural and rewarding part of his work. He acts as an external practitioner at Technical consultancies / surgeries to Years 2 and 3 at the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff.
