The site sits between two different character areas of Purley, urban and suburban. The layout and massing have been carefully designed to mediate between these two character areas and to integrate and embrace the varied topography and steep embankments found on the site. The current Urban Greening Factor of this development is 0.615, thus significantly exceeding London Plan’s target.
Spaces between the buildings maximise landscaped amenity and enhances ecological value. The blocks respond to the heights of nearby emerging developments as well as existing buildings. The architectural approach has been informed by a thorough analysis of existing character in the locality. The base of the building uses a darker red brick that samples the palette of the Grade II Listed Purley Library which is located opposite the site.
