Eagle Wharf

Westminster

A narrow, tapering site between a busy road and the river, the site contained a number of plane trees which had to be retained. In addition, a requirement for a new riverside footway meant that the site was extremely difficult to plan. The design consists of four simple pavilions reducing in height and plan form in response to the narrowing site. The blocks are in strict proportional relationship to each other.

The design received praise from English Heritage and Westminster design officers for its clear logic and simplicity. It received consent in June 2000 and won a National Homebuilder Award in 2005.

Murray House, located close to Victoria Street in the heart of Westminster, contains a range of residential tenures. Central to the brief are 19 intermediate-rent flats for the United Women’s’ Housing Association, a long- established tenant community. Shared ownership flats are located on the upper set- back floor within the core.
