Located on 252-256 Uxbridge Road, our scheme is a short distance from Shepherd’s Bush Market Underground Station. The site is currently occupied by a building formerly used as Shepherd’s Bush Police Station. The development consists of 53 residential units – of which 35% are affordable housing, and 3 flexible commercial units.

The proposal will deliver a high-quality building that will enhance and bring interest to the streetscape of Uxbridge Road. The building consists of 2 blocks which reflect the local character and respect the local context in terms of scale and mass.

Formation Architects brought a truly collaborative approach to this project, working pro-actively with all parts of our organisation including development, sales and construction.

Design

Designed primarily as a car-free scheme. 2 accessible Blue Badge parking spaces will be provided within the site boundary and over 92 cycle parking spaces for residents and visitors.

The landscape courtyard will incorporate new trees and hard landscaping which aim to provide a valuable visual setting for and breakout amenity zone for the residents, including a dedicated child’s play space.

Details

Additional richness of detail was introduced into the east elevation in the form of ‘playful’ brickwork detail, referencing the previous use of the site. The brickwork detail incorporates alternating sequences of vertical and horizontal soldier bricks, forming a chequerboard pattern which recalls the banding around police hats.

The scheme enhances the public realm and incorporates a good amount of active frontage along Uxbridge Road and Tunis Road. The commercial units will provide continuation to the existing row of amenities, supporting community use, and provide valuable active frontage to engage with and enhance the existing streetscape.

252-256 Uxbridge Road will provide much-needed residential and affordable housing in an area of high intensification and high transport accessibility, bringing a currently unoccupied site into a more suitable and exciting use that addresses the needs of the community.

252-256 Uxbridge Road is shortlisted in the New London Awards 2024.
